Horseback Archery
The Horseback Archery discipline serves as a modern legacy of ancient Mamluk cavalry traditions. Following a curriculum reconstructed from historical manuscripts, students undergo the '6-Week Basic Course' or the '4-Day Clinic.' Successful candidates then enter the Karanis class tiraz examinations to validate their foundational proficiency. Progression leads to the Hasekiyye class, representing the master level of the discipline.
The scope of this training extends beyond archery to encompass comprehensive horsemanship and riding techniques. Within the Mamluk tradition, a proficient horse archer is defined by their ability to maintain a balanced relationship with their horse, rather than just their accuracy on the move.

KARANIS CLASS

The Karanis class, consisting of expert cavalrymen in Mamluk history, were the most popular experienced soldiers in wars. Archers who complete the 6-week basic training and begin to be graded in the Cülban class start the karanis class grading system after completing the basic horse archery training. At this level, riders are evaluated in terms of performance, skill and knowledge. Each archer who reaches a level is given a badge representing that level by his instructor.
